How the Photoart Piece "Kiss" Was Created
How the Photoart Piece "Kiss" Was Created When I start a photoart Art object, I have no ideas as to how it will turn out even though I have a visualization of the Art object in my mind. It is that I feel more than think about the Art object. How did "Kiss" the photoart object get created? It started with a desire to make an Art object to celebrate our 42 wedding anniversary. I was reviewing files of photographs I had taken in Prague around 2000 when I came across the photograph of the image you see in Image 1. It just happened to be there. This is a small ceramic object of a Dutch girl and boy kissing. We had picked it up in Holland in 1986. I had taken a photo of the ceramic object some time before. I liked the lighting and shadow. It was the shadow of the girl's head and hat that first drew my attention. It looked like a heart. What a metaphor! Well, this is all occurring the night of June 24 and I would need to complete the Art object quickly if I wanted to have it ready for June 25th our wedding anniversary. I load Image 1 into Photoshop and began to create. First, I did a crop of Image 1, which is Image 2. To get the quality I wanted, I enlarged the Art piece to 600 dpi, which is Image 3. This takes the file size from 40 kb (kilobytes - "A kilobyte (derived from the SI prefix kilo-, meaning 1,000) is a unit of information or computer storage equal to either 1,024 bytes (210) or 1,000 bytes (103), depending on context." From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia) to 497 kb. Now, this is a large file, I have a fast computer; but still it takes about 20 minutes to load. So, each change I make to Image 3 get bigger and bigger; the computer gets slower and slower. Like, stuck in molasses. I'm so busy creating, I don't take the time to save the file. Finished, now I go to save the file as a png file (for the internet this is the best way of saving a file, less jagges but larger file size). Of course, it happens. The computer system crashes. All is lost. I thought I had saved the file before. No, only Image 3. It is late. I'm tired. So, I'll just have to start over in the morning. Next morning, I start over. Starting with Image 3, I make the changes I want. The file is saved as Kiss 30x24 6-25-2008.png. The Kiss png file is now 3645 kb. This is the file I can make 52" x 52" Giclee on Canvas Art. Unfortunately, I can not load this file here so I created a small file Kiss 1000pix 6-25-2008.png that I've labeled Image 4. This is a likeness to the Art file but only 174 kb. This is not the final Art object. The final Art object is created when I adjust the size of the Art to fit on an 8.5" x 11" canvas photo sheet. I print this file onto the canvas photo sheet. Next, I take out my oil paints and repaint the Art object. Now, I have a photoart Art object, which I sign and date. This is not an original for the original remains in my mind and soul. This is a representation of my original intent. It is a reproduction. This is the "Kiss" Art object I share with my life long partner of 42 years. Happy Anniversary.
