So, you want to take a cruise
One way to travel that we enjoy is cruising. Because we live close to Port Canaveral, embarking from this location was the logical option for us. As members of RCI since 1980s, Resort Condominiums International, they had sent us information about a savings voucher for a cruise vacation. This tempted my interest. In addition, they mentioned in the information a possible exchange of our timeshare week. When contacting their cruise department, I found the voucher or week seemed to be of no value when booking the cruise. Of course, this was very disappointing. If anyone has been able to do this successfully, please let me know. RCI cruise consultant told me what ships, itineraries, and dates were available going out of Port Canaveral. Based on our previous cruises, we selected Royal Caribbean International. The ship was the Mariner of the Seas a 7-Night Western Caribbean Cruise. It was stopping at locations we had never visited. Travel itinerary: Port Canaveral, Florida June 1, 2008; Cruising, June 2, 2008; Labadee, Haiti, June 3, 2008; Ocho Rios, Jamaica, June 4, 2008; George Town, Grand Cayman, June 5, 2008; Cozumel, Mexico, June 6, 2008; Cruising, June 7, 2008; Port Canaveral, June 8, 2008. Arrangements were now made to book the cruise through RCI cruise department. Also, our stateroom was chosen as well as main seating in the dining room for dinner. Before we left on the vacation, it was important to make sure we had the proper travel documentation. Our passports were current, so we did not have to do anything there. We checked the government site (http://wwwn.cdc.gov/travel/) for any health or travel issues. It is important to do this before you leave as well. Royal Caribbeans internet site allows you to take a virtual tour of the ship. This ship is amazing. It has a ice skating rink and a promenade among its many features. Shore excursions were chosen on their internet site, too. There is a countdown of days until you embark on the site (this is very exciting). On the day of embarking, you must be checked in 60 minutes before the ship is scheduled to leave. Checking in on the internet is simple. You can print out your Sea Pass which allows you to check in faster. They are very generous with their luggage allowance: however, if you have to fly to the port, check with the airlines you are using. Suggestion: Do not bring more than you can use; besides you are going to be making purchases along the way. Your guest vacation documents will be mailed to you several weeks before the cruise. They contain among other things the cruise summary, travel itinerary, pre cruise checklist and cruise ticket contract. The DAY arrives to travel. It is time to go. It is time to enjoy you cruise. Disclaimer: We are not part of the cruise line or any association affiliated with them. This is just to help you maximize your cruising experience.
