Touring the Wine Country
Touring the Wine Country You are not a wine buff, you're not one of those know it all nose in the air wine connoisseur snobs. Actually, I never met such a person in all my experiences of meeting and traveling through the wine areas of the world. Everyone I've met has tried in every way possible to try and help me understand wine. The people I have met have been kind and considerate in assisting me in my quest of the understanding of the vine and the wine. I believe you too will find this to be true of the people involved in the art of wine. That I think is really how they see it, an art. It may be a business but at the end of the day as the sun sets over the vineyards, it's about nature and man working together to produce one of the greatest food products that man endeavors to understand. So as you start out on your own travels through the vineyards of the world, you can be assured your going to learn something about nature the vine maker, man the wine producer, and you the wine drinker. There are many packages on the internet to meet anyone's budget. What it comes down to is where do you want to go as to country, region, and vineyard. Then what types of grape varietals, wine makers, and types of wine produced, you wish to enjoy. In America, most will think of California as the place to go. The fact is that every state in the United States has at least one winery to visit. The most notable areas of winery's are of course the West Coast. Some may think of the East Coast. Then there's the Rocky Mountain Region, the Southwestern, and the Midwestern Regions. The winery in the Great Lakes Region extends right into Canada. But would you ever think of Florida and South Carolina. Yes, there are wineries here too. As a matter of fact we were at a winery in South Carolina in the northwest corner of the state. Some very fine wines I must say. So wherever you go in the United States you can find a winery, a haven to appreciate the fruits of the vine. Should we start a tour of the wine country here? I think not. We could spend a thousand hours and a thousand months for that matter and never be able to cover all the wineries of the world. But what I would do is encourage you to make an adventure into the wine countries and experience the hospitality. I always tell people when asked where should I start. Start in your own backyard, neighborhood, or region. Find little jewels near you. When you travel to other areas of the world seek out the wineries in the area. Ask your friends what wineries they have enjoyed. Ask your local wine merchant. Like me you might get an opportunity to visit wineries with a personal grand tour. An opportunity to meet the great artist, the wine maker. These are the largest wine producers in the United States as of 2005 " 1. E & J Gallo Winery - Accounts for more than a quarter of all US wine sales and is the second largest producer in the world. 2. Constellation Brands - With foreign wine holdings Constellation is the largest producer in the world and includes Robert Mondavi Winery and Columbia Winery in its portfolio 3. The Wine Group - San Francisco-based business which owns the Franzia box wine label, Concannon Vineyard and Mogen David kosher wine. 4. Bronco Wine Company - Owners of the Charles Shaw wine "Two Buck Chuck" line which accounts for nearly 5 million of Bronco's annual average 9 million cases per year. 5. Diageo - UK based company with American holdings in Sterling Vineyards, Beaulieu Vineyard and Chalone Vineyard 6. Brown-Forman Corporation - Owners of the Korbel Champagne Cellars brand 7. Beringer Blass - Australian based wine division of Foster's Group and owner of the Beringer wine and Stags' Leap Winery brands 8. Jackson Wine Estates - Owners of the Kendall-Jackson brand" From http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/American_wine "A Day without wine is a day without sunshine." Author unknown zzzzz |
