Touring the Wine Country Addamo Estate Vineyards
Touring the Wine Country Addamo Estate Vineyards I like to do extensive research about a winery or vineyard collecting all the information of the who, what, when, where and how of a particular winery or vineyard. Then I like to set an appoint and go to the site, walk the vineyard, pick up rocks and soil from the area, and just get a feel for the land. Now I'm older and it is a little tougher to get to the sites but when I can I enjoy the experience. It really is fun to meet the winemaker, to see the equipment and then walk among the vines smelling the air and tasting the atmosphere of that winery and vineyard. I have never been to Addamo Estate Vineyards nor have I ever seen the wines or tasted them. Why write about a wine you have never seen or tasted? The process is to prepare before you go there. Now my research about Addamo Estate Vineyards has left me a little puzzled. Usually I do a google of the site so that I can see the vineyards and get a sense of the lay of the land. You can get a lot of knowledge about a site just by looking at it from space. You see the topography. You see the vines and the rows of vines. You see where the water is and how it drains away from the property. The roads and buildings are important also. Sometimes you can even see the machinery and people in the vineyard. With Addamo Estate Vineyards google gave me this: "This winery’s map location has been determined using Geocoding Mapping Technology, based on winery address data. If you plan to visit Addamo Estate Vineyards, please contact the winery to confirm location." Which is not a vineyard nor a winery but a building in Old Orcutt somewhere in California supposedly in the Santa Maria Valley Appellation but I'm not sure. In Addamo Estate Vineyards history information, it is stated that the family is from Sicily, Italy, and that in 2000 planted 120 acres with 6 different varietals. Their estate vineyard is located in the Santa Maria Valley appellation of Santa Barbara County just 10 miles from the Pacific Coast. The Addamo Estate Vineyards has its own estate vineyard and produce their own wines at the vineyard. Try as I might I could not find the winery or the vineyards. So it is back to my research to search some more until I find this lost jewel. According to the information on the winery's site the wines have won gold and silver awards. For that reason alone, I would like to taste the wines. I've look at the prices for their wines and for me a little high just to order over the internet. I need to check with some friends in the trade and see what they know. So far I have not found anyone that has tasted the wines. There is a review of several of the wines from people who have visited at Addamo Estate Vineyards Tasting Room and Bistro and their notes seem to be favorable. It appears that the wines of Addamo Family are served at the tasting room and bistro location at 400 East Clark Ave. Old Orcutt, CA 93455. If you are in the area you might want to give them a call at Phone 805/937-6400 or Alternate Phone 805/937-6750 or Fax 805/937-5656. And you can email them at info@AddamoWineCellar.com but I have not gotten a response yet. Justin Mund is the Addamo Estate Vineyards wine maker with a degree from Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo.
